Carey was once a popular fashion model. She's 5'10" tall and was very well-liked by high-end American designers such as Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren as well as others. Her father is a distinguished geologist, who was awarded Scientist of the Year in 1979 at the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey went to all over the world because of her father's work. The model began modeling for a part-time basis when she was a student studying at the University of Colorado and caught the attention of an agent of the Ford model Agency in New York. She stayed in France briefly, in Paris and Bordeaux. Then she returned home to New York for her college study and further to build her modeling career. As she modeled and continued to pursue her studies in full-time a major in literature in New York University. As time passed, she was drawn to acting, and began studying at the Neighborhood Playhouse in New York. The actress had a tiny part in Club Paradise with Robin Williams In 1986. Her hobbies include doing white-water rafting, skiing, windsurfing, and rock climbing.
